HONG KONG – The Department of Health on Monday said that a 69-year-old man was confirmed to have been infected with the novel coronavirus, bringing the city’s tally to 58.

Separately, a 45-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman tested positive for the virus in preliminary checks

At a press conference Monday, Chuang Shuk-kwan, the head of the Communicable Disease Branch of the Centre for Health Protection, said the man is a resident of Yee Ming Estate in Tseung Kwan O where he lives with his daughter.

The patient did not travel outside Hong Kong during the incubation period, Chuang said, adding that it was yet unknown how he contracted the pathogen.

Separately, a 45-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman tested positive for the virus in preliminary checks as final results were awaited, Chuang said.

The man is a colleague of the 57th person confirmed to have contracted the disease and the woman is his wife. The 54-year-old man, a resident of the middle-class housing estate of Taikoo Shing, did not travel outside Hong Kong in the recent past.

The man and his infected colleague had a meeting at Hospital Authority Building on Feb 6 in Kowloon, Chuang said, adding that the location had been thoroughly disinfected.

Among 58 confirmed cases and two other patients awaiting confirmation, four live in the Sai Wan Ho area, and another three visited churches near the Sai Wan Ho rail station.

Chuang dismissed speculation that there is a community outbreak in the Sai Wan Ho area, as the authority hasn’t determined where some of the cases were infected. In fact, the cases in Sai Wan Ho included a three-person household, and the other two, who visited a church, are a couple, Chuang added.
