HK reports 1 new COVID-19 case, tally at 1,066

HONG KONG - Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) on Wednesday reported one more COVID-19 case, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 1,066.

The new case involved a 24-year-old male who had been outside Hong Kong during his incubation period. The CHP's epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing on this case are ongoing.

According to Hong Kong's Hospital Authority, there are 28 COVID-19 patients currently in hospital in Hong Kong, with one in critical condition. A total of 1,034 confirmed and suspected patients have been discharged so far.

From May 13 to 27, no new local cases were recorded in Hong Kong. David Hui, a respiratory medicine expert from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government's anti-epidemic team, said that the HKSAR government may consider relaxing the group gathering restriction, which is due to expire on June 4, if there are no new local cases by then.

The CHP urged the public to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible in their daily lives to minimize the risk of infection.
